Tieton River Rafting adventure
Difficulty: Class III-IV
The Tieton River near Yakima WA. is a fall classic here in Washington state. In September, the Rimrock dam is opened to provide water in the Lower Yakima river basin, and before the lower valley gets the water, we raft it in the upper area of the Tieton River. Being the steepest river we run provides for continuous whitewater over the course of this river adventure. In addition, the water is warmer than any river we run as it has had all summer to warm up behind the walls of the dam. This is a great river adventure for the experienced river veteran or an adventurous first timer; great for kids 10 and up too.

September Is the Time to Challenge the Tieton:
Catch excitement within a limited time! The Tieton River is at its swiftest during the month of September when the floodgates of Rimrock Lake open. As a result, the mostly calm river transforms into a fast and furious course. During this month, the Tieton River boasts Class 3 and 4 rapids. Water movement that is rated in these tiers is widely known for high speeds and bumpy rides. In other words, Mother Nature has set up a mean coaster for rafters to challenge.

Of course, there is so much more to see and do along the river. The Tieton is also a popular location for catching touring bands and other outdoor shows. What’s Tremendous about Tieton River:
- The Bureau of Land Reclamation opens the floodgates on Rimrock Lake so we get a fast river every time.
- It’s the steepest river we run, with a 600-foot drop in elevation from launch to finish.
- A perfect raft adventure when other rivers are running out of rapids.
